It was the first night hike & how anticipating it was (anxious, scared etc etc).
When we reached at the foot of Gunung Datuk, believe me it's rather bright cos there were lots of climbers in different groups with their headlamps flashing everywhere. We started off ascending around 3am in the middle of the night. Gunung Datuk's summit is 855m above sea level. Although it was slightly shorter than Gunung Belumut, however hiking at night was a totally different experience. Senses tend to be more acute & wary around surroundings. Le bf was leading ahead so i joined other participants hiking up the mountain. Thank god someone was with me when both my legs gave way due to cramps & we made it up to the summit before 6:30am. No photos was taken during ascending cos its really just pitch darkness except 50m ahead route with headlamps on. All photos was taken during summit & after descending activities!
Summit photo is a must! Gunung Datuk's nearest town is Malacca. Folks were settling down at summit waiting to capture sunrise.
Sun has came up, off we descend. During descending saw nice fungi growing on logs.
There was a difference during ascending & descending. During descending, there are lots of big boulders which could be a challenge to manoeuvre down. It was also challenging especially many locals are heading up the summit in the morning. I remembered it was during the period of Malaysia's GE, so there were quite a few local hikers chanting some slogans along the way.
When i saw this, i was certainly relieved that our hike for the day was over! This means time to relax!!! 😆😆🍾 That day was really hot & humid as you can see how the clouds were formed & looming behind Gunung Datuk.
After some light wash-up, off we head to Malacca! It was the first time i visit cos i've always heard friends talking about it especially about eating. After our short briefing what time & venue to meet back after 3 hours, the first thing we reached to find eating is A&W 🤪
Cos.... the mall was rather empty, we ate in peace & can't go wrong with it! ✌
Back then, Singapore does not have A&W, now it is an eatery with long queue & people fight to be in queue, which was rather ridiculous.

After our meal, we hit the streets to explore Jonker street. There were quite a number of local snack shops, chicken rice ball & cafes. Colourful trishaw nicely decorated with cartoon characters & parked nicely along the street. There was also a Mamee shop along Jonker street. We just went in walk one round & came out, didn't buy any snacks back. 3 hours to spend at Jonker street was too long & in fact a torture especially it was hot & sunny! It reminds me of Kuala Lumpur's Petaling Street cos its kinda similar concept & heat trapping.
We continued to walk around to check out places until we saw some sort of a traditional looking dessert shop cafe: The Baboon House. It was good choice that we had some lattes with ice cream. Cos it's yummy! We stayed there till the meet-up time was up.
This sums up our short 1D1N trip in Malacca! Till the next time & stay safe people!💪🏽🤘🏽
