Fjällräven Classic Hong Kong 2018- Day 2

Writer's picture: Allie LAllie L

Dawn soon came upon after a night rest. It felt like we barely rested but still woke up nonetheless. We woke up seeing cows grazing nearby the organiser's tent. Cows ain't afraid of people which is a sight that you won't get the chance to experience in urban environment. We boiled water & prepare our breakfast with our fellow friends.

After breakfast, we started to packed up to prepare our journey to start our 2nd day towards our 2nd campsite which is at Ham Tin beach.

Earlier hours was much cloudy & we started off on to Tai Tan Country trail. It was rather cloudy. As we hiked along, the mountain & sea views were indeed gorgeous. When nearing to afternoon, the weather started to get hot as the sun was not covered by clouds. The trees are not tall along trail unlike Malaysia's tropical forest. There were a mixture of coastal & inland trails.

We reached CP 3: Cheung Sheung which is surrounded by grassy fields, & of course..

more cows. The area has 1-2 local shops for the villagers staying nearby & a public toilet.

To be honest, it was my first time using a public toilet that was just a hole with which was at least 6-10 ft deep.

Besides Fjallraven participants, the people we met along the way are mostly locals & trail runners. The section after CP3 has more climbing as the trail is steeper & we were back on Maclehose trail which connects Ngau Yee Shek Mountain. We reached the highest peak of the event which is at 425m above sea level to have a good view of the islands 7 bay before descending down to CP4 which connects to Tai Long Wan Hiking trail. Although it was steep but it's a short hike that indeed worthy!

We took a rest at CP4 Pak Tam Au as it was rather challenging for me to descend with a full loaded pack. The North Face Litus 32 did not meet the expectation although for the space it is roomy for 3 days trek, however the backpack straps ain't comfortable which kind of strains my shoulders. Continued the journey after resting enough towards our last 8km stretch for day 2 . Along the way there were mixture trails & inland route as there locals staying along the way. Some buildings we passed by just seems ancient & dilapidated similar to what we saw on day 1. However, it was eerily charming as mother nature did her job to reclaim back.

Finally.. we reached our destination campsite! Beautiful by the beach 😍

Total distances mapped by #Strava around 22km. Insane amount of calories burnt!

Setting up tent by the beach, how romantic~~ Here's our #EurekaMidori 2-men tent. One of the challenge to camp by the beach is usually packing up due to the tiny sands that are hard to clean up.

Day 2 dinner isn't freeze dried food, but Hotpot! Yayyyyyyy it is one my all-time favourite although bf isn't fond of it cos it's too hot. However, I suppose eating anywhere not in Singapore makes him happy 😆 We queued for the seafood & some other ingredients. It was alot of portion person. It's also our first having hotpot by the beach!

We hung out with the rest of the singapore participants till around 10pm & pack-up to rest to prepare our final day journey. To be Continued..
