In early 2018 & already after 30s, I started off with some local walks organised by #SGTREK which i clocked my longest walk at that point from Raffles Place to Changi Village for about 35km cos I couldn't walk any farther. Le Bf continued to walked to Punggol & called it a night. Some of them were really mentally strong & completed back to Raffles Place till the next morning.

My legs were too sore & painful as my memories ignited that I rested for about 2 days

What gear was I in? well just a dry-fit, running shorts, a pair of running nikes & #Herschel backpack. Of course, water bottle & a towel is a must. After this long distance walking experience, it rings me that I will need a suitable outdoor backpack that could at least have good support on the straps.

Fast forward, I managed to do some hikes across the months before I went for my 1st major multi-day trekking in late Oct 2018 which I will share afterwards.

I started my 1st overseas day hike in Kluang, Malaysia on 28 Jan 2018. It's a nice & quiet town that's about 2 to 2.5 hours drive. We went to Gunung Lambak. It's a mountain which is less than 500m sea level. It's literally a backyard for the locals that stays around the area. Many of them does their morning walks there. It is quite a nice mountain for beginners & experience real jungles. Big millipedes are all over the place along the trail & macaques mainly. Back then, I did not know if hiking was a thing for me hence I just bought my first pair of hiking shoes from decathlon for S$15.00 a pair & a TNF backpack. Since it was a day hike, we only brought what was needed such as small personal 1st aid kit, water bottle at least 1 litre & a small towel. I wore a pair of training gloves to grip tree roots to maneuverer myself up on steep trails. Usually I felt terrible & somehow it kind of feel breath stuck in my gut during the first 2km up on the trail. Subsequently the symptom subsided.

Kluang has quite a good array of food places around the area for eating & resting. The most famous is the #Kluangrailcoffee. The main eatery is located in Kluang Train station. The coffee has good aroma & not too acidic. Many locals head to this eatery for their food & it leaves you a nostalgic impression ☕️

Kluang is a place that's rather hippy, similar to Penang with the street murals & graffiti.

It's a good place to chill even if you aren't into day hikes.

Overall, if the borders are open, it will be the 1st place I will head start my altitude training again since it is not too difficult to go. Bus or train ticket could be booked online.

On my few posts I will share my other past experiences on day hikes in Malaysia!
